Diabetic Olympians!
Olympians are incredible athletes and some are even incredible diabetics as well! There have been numerous diabetic participants in the Olympic games, including a swimmer named Evita Leter who is currently competing in Rio. A winter Olympian, Kris Freeman, is one of the best US cross-country skiers. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2000 and has participated in four Olympic games. In the video published by TIME, Freeman discusses how he learned how to use new technology to manage his diabetes in a way that does not hinder his athletic career. He talks about being on the OmniPod, an especially useful pump for him since it does not have tubing that can freeze in cold skiing weather. Click here to see his inspiring interview. Diabetic Olympians prove that having T1D should never hold you back from fulfilling your dreams!
