Over the summer, I attended the West Point Summer Leaders Experience. This program is designed to give participants an idea of life as a West Point cadet and is, at times, physically grueling. Attending a cadet training program while having diabetes is certainly uncommon and having to constantly monitor your blood sugar does add an additional layer of responsibility. But going to the West Point Summer Leaders Experience, I proved to myself that diabetes cannot stop from from participating in and achieving anything I set my mind to. Diabetics may have more responsibilities and our tasks might be more difficult, but diabetes is not something that can get in the way of our goals.
