Diabetes in the Media: NightScout

Recently, an article was published in the Wall Street Journal about the newest system for diabetics, NightScout, which allows parents to receive data from their child's CGM directly to their smartphone or smartwatch. NightScout enables parents to monitor their child's glucose levels from far away, therefore giving diabetics more freedom while being safe. Although NightScout relies on the commercial product Dexcom, it was first configured by an independent software engineer (a parent of a diabetic) in 2012. Since its creation, many parents have used NightScout and the idea has garnered national attention through the Wall Street Journal, despite the fact that it has yet to be approved by the FDA. The diabetes community is excited to see that talented parents have initiated the development of a much needed system and have refused to wait for the FDA's approval of new and life-changing technology. Check out the Wall Street Journal article on NightScout and the video!
